Émergences

Directed by Ryo Orikasa

Produced by Pierre Baussaron (Miyu Productions), Nobuaki Doi (New Deer), Jelena Popović

Émergences is a visualization of ‘Misérable miracle’ by Henri Michaux, a highly idiosyncratic Franco-Belgian poet and painter. The rhymes, originally written in French and inspired by Michaux’s own artwork, are brought to life by Ryo Orikasa, an innovative Japanese animation director who manipulates them as if they were images – similar to how Japanese ideograms are perceived by a Westerner. Being a fervent admirer of Michaux, Orikasa pays homage to Michaux’s oeuvre in which “lines and words form a whole almost impossible to break down into its component elements”.
