Brûlez-les tous ! relates the destiny of an ugly, ostracized witch in a small Acadian village in an era when children were dying of diphtheria by the dozen. When Eymard catches the disease, his mother, Bernice, will do anything to save him. Braving the villagers’ judgement, she seeks out Julie, the witch. Eymard still resents that he was among the few to survive but also that he was never able to thank the woman who saved his life.
