God in a Roadside Ditch

Directed by Karsten Wall

Produced by Alicia Smith

Set in the Interlake region of Manitoba, God in a Roadside Ditch is a 15-minute stylized nature film that explores the impacts of human-made light pollution on insects and plants of the common Canadian wetland.
Framed by the short life cycle of mayflies in summer, this immersive film is told without narration, using detailed visuals and natural sounds. From the organic lights of fireflies to the ultraviolet glow of carnivorous plants, God in a Roadside Ditch presents a unique view of one of Canada’s most overlooked habitats – offering deeper awareness of the natural world within reach, and the vital function it serves.
