Central Documentary Unit

Located in Toronto and Winnipeg
Collaborating with directors and producers based in Nunavut, Manitoba, and Ontario

The Central Documentary Unit produces artful and impactful documentaries with deep social, cultural, and historical relevance. We collaborate with skilled Canadian documentary filmmakers of all experience levels who demonstrate a strong vision and a unique voice. We aim to make films that push boundaries – in the stories we tell, the forms our films take, or the audiences we seek to reach.

At the Central Documentary Unit, we care deeply about artistic excellence, centering marginalized perspectives, the point of view of the filmmaker, the power of documentary storytelling, and the freedom to experiment.

We are a full production unit, with offices in both Winnipeg and Toronto. We have approximately 20-25 projects underway at any point in time. Our producers have deep roots in a legacy of creating innovative and award-winning works.
