Turtle Island Rap

Written and Directed by Alexandra Lazarowich

Produced by Darby Wheeler (Scenario Production Inc.), Chehala Leonard

There’s something about Hip-Hop that feels familiar to Indigenous people—the deejays are the drummers; the rappers are the storytellers, and the bboys and bgirls fill the role of the powwow dancers. Even more profoundly, is the spirit of survival and struggle that pervades the culture. Turtle Island Rap is a verite and mixed media documentary exploring the influence of Hip-Hop on Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island.
