Create an Animated Documentary with the NFB French Animation Unit

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) invites animation filmmakers to submit their projects for the second edition of Alambic. This exciting program offers them a paid six-month mentorship where they can create an animated documentary that’s up to three minutes long.

Immerse yourself in a world of creativity and collaboration. Alambic is a dynamic, intensive experience where imagination, experimentation and craft come together to reveal the next wave of unique filmmaking talent.

About the 2025 Edition: ANIMER LE RÉEL

This year, Alambic is seeking bold and innovative animated documentary proposals, preferably addressing contemporary collective issues. We invite French-speaking animation filmmakers interested in pushing the boundaries of animation and documentary storytelling to submit their proposals. Applications are open to candidates across Canada.

To participate, you must be available full-time for the program. Work can be done remotely, and the NFB will provide the necessary equipment whenever possible. However, creators based in the Montreal area are strongly encouraged to use the NFB’s creative spaces at Îlot Balmoral, located in the vibrant Quartier des Spectacles.
