LIVING MEMORY is not only a memory within our lifetimes, but it is the lifetime of a memory; the memory’s own life. EP
Living Memory is a four-part documentary series following Evelyn Pakinewatik as they engage with their mentor artists and cultural knowledge carriers who have shaped their practice. Through land-based storytelling, harvesting, and creative processes, the series explores how Indigenous art and knowledge remain alive through relationships, reciprocity, and the responsibility of carrying stories forward.
Though rarely on screen, Evelyn’s Pakinewatik’s conversations with mentor artists reveal the intergenerational nature of their relationships.
The film mirrors the intimate bond between mentor and Shkaabewis—both student and helper. For them, Pakinewatik, this role is a gift and a promise: to carry knowledge forward, learn from it, and one day share it.
To be Shkaabweis is to be taught and to accept teaching as both a gift and a promise; I will remember.  EP
