The documentary web series Étoile du Nord provides an unprecedented look at the daily life of Laurie Rousseau-Nepton, resident astronomer at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. In her thirties and one of the few women in her field, Rousseau-Nepton is also the first Indigenous woman from Québec to earn a doctorate in astrophysics.
A leading researcher and well-known speaker, Rousseau-Nepton conveys her unique knowledge of the universe—enhanced with ancestral knowledge and Indigenous cultures—with passion and clarity, deconstructing many a scientific stereotype along the way. In close harmony with the astronomer, Étoile du Nord offers an intimate and poetic look at the science of space.
