Based in Toronto, the Ontario Studio, led by Executive Producer Anita Lee, is a creative hub of non-fiction storytelling with an emphasis on point-of-view. As a full production studio with three producers – David Oppenheim, Justine Pimlott and Sherien Barsoum – we actively collaborate with the most creative talent from across Ontario’s independent film and interactive landscape including producers, directors, creative directors, editors, designers and more, to produce and coproduce award-winning, critically acclaimed documentaries and immersive experiences for the world stage.
With the NFB’s collective experience of 80 years behind us, we know stories can open minds and change perspectives. As a pioneering producer of such ground-breaking works as Stories We Tell, Draw Me Close and What is Democracy?, we strive to make innovative works that push boundaries, champion original perspectives, and affect significant cultural and social impact. We know stories have the power to reflect truths far deeper than the facts, and we believe those truths can build authentic connections across diverse values and identities.
Through our in-house immersive lab, we work with creators of varying backgrounds to actively challenge and expand the notion of documentary storytelling by embracing experimental technologies and methods in order to produce wholly unique and visionary experiences.
The studio has approximately 20-25 projects underway from early development to post-production at any point in time.
