Eastern Documentary Unit
REGIONAL MANDATE | Documentary
NFB production falls under the Programming | Production headquartered in Montreal. We collaborate with filmmakers through six production units across Canada. Filmmakers are invite to submit projects directly via the production unit in the region where they live.
For English documentary, we have three regional units:
We have one national unit that covers French-language filmmakers within Quebec and the French community outside Quebec:
For animation, we have two national units based in Montreal, under one executive producer and with producers assigned to each, that work with animators across the country:
While all units share core values, each one produces work that reflects the diversity of its local environment, bringing to life the many voices and stories that make up Canada. Each unit is overseen by an executive producer (EP) and has their own project submission requirements, so before preparing your proposal, make sure your project meets the relevant unit requirements as well as the selection considerations for all of our programming. Each unit functions in relationship to the specifics of its own geographic and cultural environment, vibrantly reflecting the manifold facets of Canada. While units are standalone, they occasionally collaborate on projects on a case-by-case basis in response to internal needs.
NFB production falls under the Programming | Production division. NFB has many teams that collaborate with the production teams nationwide to support creative projects nationwide. These include teams in:
